Care & Repair will be doing everything we can to support and help those most vulnerable stay safe at this difficult time.
Both Care & Repair Cymru and Care & Repair Agencies have had to adapt working practices. All our organisations are following Government Guidelines. Care & Repair Cymru has closed its office, and all staff are working from home.
Care & Repair Agencies have many staff working from home, but many staff are still providing front line services in communities and hospitals across Wales. We will be working closely with the Welsh Government, Local Authorities, the Welsh NHS and other third sector organisations to deliver vital services for the most vulnerable older people needing our support and help. Each Care & Repair Agency across Wales will operate a response that is tailored to their area.
Keeping vulnerable older people, colleagues and the wider community safe is at the forefront of our minds. We are providing front line services safely, asking clients appropriate questions before any visits. Our teams have been fully briefed and issued with appropriate protective items.
NHS Wales needs help to maximise numbers of beds available in hospitals. We will continue to work closely with our NHS colleagues to support them with hospital discharges via our Hospital to a Healthier Home service. If needed, and staff are available, we will increase this service to help patient flow through the hospitals by supporting patients to return to a safe, warm home.
For many older people, being asked to self-isolate will be a challenging and lonely experience. Care & Repair Agencies have committed to contacting their most vulnerable clients to have a chat, simply ask “how are you?” and point people in the direction of other practical support available locally. For vulnerable older people living with dementia or sensory loss, alternative modes of communication will be available.
Likewise our friends in Age Cymru have launched a “check-in-and-chat” telephone service. From Monday 23 March 2020 anyone over 70 in Wales who lives alone can call 08000 223 444 for a chat and moral support.
For further information on our services, you can contact your local Care & Repair by calling 0300 111 3333 from a land line, or by visiting our website at https://bit.ly/3dkzWe2 for direct telephone numbers and email addresses.
