Enabling people to keep their homes in the way they wish; Jan’s experience volunteering with the Attic Project
Jan has been volunteering for the Attic Project since 2017, helping older people to make space at home. Here is what she has to say about her time spent on the project.
How did you find out about The Attic Project? What made you want to volunteer for The Attic Project?
I discovered Cath and the Attic Project at the 2017 October Volunteers fair in Barry and was fascinated by the idea behind the project. I attended a day’s induction and started volunteering after that.
What are the benefits for volunteering with the Attic Project?
It has been a very positive step becoming a volunteer with such a worthwhile ethos: - helping people, who for whatever reason, are unable to keep their homes in the way they wish.
What has been your favourite moment?
My favourite moment, which sounds odd, was having a cancellation by a lovely lady for a third visit! She felt she had been enthused by the process and wanted to finish the last area herself. It brought it home to me what a strong, positive reaction that was in helping someone who thought it was too big a thing to contemplate at the start.
What would you say to prospective volunteers interested in volunteering for The Attic Project?
What would I say to prospective volunteers? Give it a go. It is very rewarding for both the client and the volunteer.
