The Attic Project is a partnership project between Care & Repair and Safer Wales, funded by the National Lottery Community fund. The service helps people age 50+ to make space at home and share memories about important possessions
The Attic Project supports older people to organise their possessions so they can live as comfortably as possible.
There’s a growing recognition that the things we accumulate over time can be a major obstacle when it comes to downsizing or allowing access for key repairs or adaptations in the home.
The Attic Project supports people to sort through or dispose of their possession in a way that is good for them and good for the environment. Through making space, works can take place that help people to keep warm, reduce the risk of falls or make it easier to live at home. It also means people are better able to move to a more appropriate home, reducing the stress of downsizing.
Sorting through possessions can bring back a lot of memories and letting go of them can be challenging. Our volunteers support people to talk about the memories behind possessions. Having the opportunity to talk about or record the stories behind possessions can be a useful & enjoyable process which provides a legacy for family and community.
