Summary:

70+ Cymru is a Wales-wide partnership project funded by the Energy Redress Scheme. 70+ Cymru provides advice and support on home energy housing improvements and energy saving techniques, so that people over 70 years old can heat their homes to over 70°F.

The Home Energy Officer (HEO) role makes a difference to the lives of older people in Wales. HEOs are part of a Wales wide team (70+ Cymru) that works to: tackle fuel poverty; enable people to keep warm and heat their homes; improve people's domestic energy options and awareness. Each HEO covers a region of Wales and works with clients, colleagues, Care & Repair specialist teams, partners and local organisations. Within your region you will work one to one with clients, usually in their home.

The HEO role delivers a blend of social, practical and technical casework. 70+ Cymru is a pilot project funded until August 2022. The project sits amid the established fuel poverty movement in Wales; this role provides opportunities to build skills in contemporary issues such as domestic & renewable energy and poverty in the private housing sector in Wales.

Using your specialist knowledge and skills - some of which you will bring to the role, others which we will help develop - you will provide a specialist service through home visiting and remote delivery. Your clients will be older people who are owner occupiers or tenants in the private rental sector. Your work with clients will be holistic: person centered; problem-led; responsive to what your client wants and needs. You will work with clients to improve issues relevant to household fuel poverty, heating, income, health, well-being, safety and security.

You will be hosted and employed by a Care & Repair Agency. You will be part of your agency's networks, training and support structures and be part of the 70+ Cymru project's network, team and learning structures. You will meet regularly with the team and our 70+ Cymru project manager and you will be invited to attend national forums and industry sessions.

You will be happy to develop specialist knowledge and skills to become the energy efficiency expert for older people in your region. Your casework-based information, evaluation data and client experiences throughout the project will help tackle fuel poverty in Wales and will contribute to Care and Repair Cymru's work to shape and influence Welsh Government policy.
