Older and Vulnerable People to Get a Helping Hand from New Local Organisation
The housing needs of local older or vulnerable people in Gwynedd and Isle of Anglesey are to get a helping hand from a new organisation called Canllaw - a new social enterprise made up of two Care & Repair agencies, Gofal a Thrwsio Gwynedd and Gofal a Thrwsio Mon.
While the Care & Repair service and ethos of providing a high quality housing service, enabling older people to live safely and independently in their communities remains at the company's core, this new organisation will also seek opportunities to help the wider vulnerable people of Gwynedd and Isle of Anglesey who require specialist housing related services.
Elfyn Owen, Director of Canllaw said: "In the current climate of doing more with less public finance, Canllaw will look for opportunities to work with our local authority partners to re-modelling services to enable local vulnerable people to remain in a safe and suitable environment."
Since they were established in Gwynedd and Isle of Anglesey, Care & Repair have helped thousands of older people remain in their own homes by ensuring they were safe, secure and appropriate to their needs. One such couple are Eric and Megan Jones of Blaenau Ffestiniog. Their bathroom has been adapted with grab rails, they have had mop stick rails on their staircase and handrails by the steps outside their home.
Mr Jones said: "These small adaptations have made a big difference to our everyday lives and we only have the highest praise for the service that we have received. The organisation responded quickly to our request and the work was carried out efficiently and courteously."
The new company was officially launched on Monday 15 November in Bangor.
