A turning point in the fight against fuel poverty in Wales

We believe that no one in Wales should have to live in a cold home. That's why we have joined with key organisations in Wales to form a coalition and have developed a fuel poverty charter to highlight the urgent action we believe is needed to eradicate fuel poverty in Wales.

We call for:

  • A detailed action plan setting out how and when fuel poverty will be eradicated in Wales
  • Support to all fuel poor households to stay warm- until fuel poverty is eradicated
  • A co-ordinated and united approach across the statutory sector (at UK and Wales level) that involves partners from the private, voluntary and community sectors in Wales

We call on the Welsh Assembly Government to endorse the charter and to implement the policy priorities it sets out as a comprehensive package to ensure that every household in Wales can benefit from the comfort of a warm home. The Welsh Assembly Government is shortly to launch a new fuel poverty strategy for Wales and the coalition would like to see the calls we outline in our charter, incorporated into this strategy.

The fuel poverty coalition is led by Consumer Focus Wales and NEA Cymru and supported by a steering group made up of a range of key organisations in Wales working to take forward the fuel poverty agenda. These include: Citizens Advice Cymru, Age Concern Cymru & Help the Aged in Wales, Community Housing Cymru, Children in Wales, West Wales Eco Centre, Macmillan Cancer Support, Shelter Cymru, Disability Wales, Oxfam Cymru, Care & Repair Cymru, End Child Poverty Network Cymru, NEA Cymru and Consumer Focus Wales.
