New Role for Care & Repair Cymru’s Chief Executive 

Wendy Bourton OBE, the Chief Executive of Care and Repair Cymru, has been appointed as the new chair of the National Partnership Forum for Older People (NPF). 

The announcement was made by Deputy Minister for Social Services Gwenda Thomas who said:   “Wales is seen as a leader when it comes to older people’s issues and I want that reputation to continue. Wales, like the rest of the UK, is getting older and this is cause for celebration. But as we get older our needs change and it is therefore important that we plan effectively to meet future needs. “The Forum has an important role in the implementation of phase two of the Assembly Government’s Older People’s Strategy and will help ensure that our policies meet the needs of older people. “I am delighted that Wendy has accepted my invitation to become the new chair of the National Partnership Forum“. Wendy Bourton added: “I welcome the opportunity of making a contribution to the work of the National Partnership Forum in partnership with its members and the Welsh Assembly Government. “Having sat on the NPF since its conception four years ago, I am looking forward to working with fellow members to continue to inform, advise and champion the issues effecting the lives of older people in Wales.”     Ends Notes to editor: 

  • Ms Bourton replaces Dr Malcolm Fisk who has completed his four-year term as chair of the NPF.

  • The group was set up in 2004 by the Welsh Assembly Government to provide independent expert advice to help inform policies to improve the lives of older people in Wales and plan for the implications of an ageing society.

  • The Welsh Assembly Government’s Strategy for Older People in Wales was launched in January 2003. The Strategy provides a 10-year framework for statutory bodies, the voluntary sector and others to address the implications of an ageing society and to improve services for older people.
