Bridgend County Care & Repair provide a range of services to clients across Bridgend. 

We provide a 'holistic' service which means that we try to support clients not just in relation to specific works, but also in relation to any other work, assistance or intervention which the client would benefit from. This can include signposting to other organisations who can assist in areas that we are unable to.

Services include assisting you to improve, repair or adapt your home and are available to individuals aged 60 or over, or of any age with a disability. Some services may be chargeable dependant on eligibility.

Core Casework Support Service

If you are aged 60 and over, our home visiting service can provide you with free advice, information and support tailored to your individual needs. Our experienced caseworker will come to your home and will listen to your needs.

Our expert Casework team can visit you in your home to listen and discuss any issues that concern you and identify individual solutions for you.

We can offer you:

  • Support – Caseworkers can provide personal support and encouragement as clients prepare for and deal with the disruption that may be caused by any adaptions/building work.
  • Liaise on the client's behalf –We act as a point of contact between the client, family or carer within various organisations and statuary bodies which provide support.
  • Applications – We can visit the client's home to help fill in forms such as Local Authority Grant applications and Attendance Allowance applications.
  • Signposting –we signpost and liaise on client's behalf with appropriate organisations for support tailor made to the client's needs, for example, Energy Advice Centre, Department of Works and Pension, Royal British Legion, Age Cymru.
  • Advice and Information – we can also provide help and information over the telephone, services such as benefit checks and Disabled Facilities Grants financial checks can be completed over the telephone by one of our trained members of staff.
  • Grants/Funding options – We will discuss what repairs and adaptations you need, the possible solutions and provide advice on sources of funding such as Disabled Facilities Grants, self-funding or benevolent funding for the identified works to be carried out and can assist with the completion of forms or other paperwork.
  • Affordable Warmth – We provide energy efficiency advice, support and solutions including funding options, fuel debt, switching tariffs and suppliers, Warm Home Discount and Priority Service Registration.
  • Benefits Check – We offer and complete a welfare benefit check to maximise your income and refer you for appropriate benefits to ensure that you are in receipt of your full entitlement.

  • Health – We refer clients for Occupational Therapy assessments to assess for equipment and adaptations relating to the clients health needs. We also have trained assessors who can assess for small scale adaptations.

Rapid Response Adaptations Programme (RRAP)

The funding for RRAP is provided by Welsh Government for people who are in hospital awaiting discharge, have recently been discharged from hospital or at risk of being admitted to hospital or into a care home.

To obtain grant assistance referrals must come from a Health or Social Service Professional e.g. an Occupational Therapist. We can advise you how to access this funding and speak to the referral agency on your behalf.

  • Hand rails/ Grab rails
  • Access to toilet facilities
  • Repositioning of Light Switches/sockets
  • Provision of stair rails

  • Door entry Systems

  • Levelling concrete floors
  • Improve Lighting interior/exterior
  • Heating Repairs to main living areas
  • Fitting carpet strips

Managing Better Sensory Service

The Managing Better service is a 3-year project, funded from the Welsh Government's Sustainable Social Services Third Sector Grant. The service is led by Care & Repair Cymru in partnership with RNIB Cymru, Action on Hearing Loss Cymru and Care & Repair Agencies across Wales.

If you are aged 50 and over, are a home owner, live in private rented accommodation or live in Social Housing our Managing Better Caseworker can provide free advice and support to help you secure necessary home repairs & adaptations.

Managing Better caseworkers have particular expertise in the impact of sight loss, hearing loss and/or duel sensory loss and how this affects people at home in terms of their personal safety, independence and well-being and will provide advice and support around this.

Hospital to Home Service

Our caseworkers also assist clients who are currently in hospital who require home adaptations or repairs before a safe transfer from hospital to home can be made.  We work closely with the hospital discharge team, attending ward meetings and taking an active part in the discharge planning process.  

Once the patient has been safely discharged a home visit is carried out by the caseworker to assess if any larger scale repairs and/or adaptations are required as well as the need for financial support, welfare benefits advice or any other relevant services.

Primary Care Healthy Homes Service

We have a dedicated team of caseworkers and occupational therapist who are working directly with twelve GP practices in the County Borough of Bridgend to identify clients who would benefit from proactive early intervention in relation to their home environment and support them live more comfortably, safely and independently at home.

Technical Service

Our professional and experienced technical officers can help you with any repairs or adaptations that you may require to your home.

Our team can oversee and project-manage work for you, relieving you of the stress and anxiety of organising the work yourself. They will plan the work (including any necessary technical drawings), establish what the total costs will be and liaise with the contractors to ensure the work is done properly. These Technical Services are chargeable and we will always provide a quotation at the start of the project.  

 

If you would prefer to have full responsibility for organising the work yourself we can help you to find a reputable and experienced contractor. We have a list of contractors available to clients who would like to organise the work themselves.

Bridgelink Telecare Service

Since 2008 Bridgend County Borough Council has commissioned the Agency to install telecare alarm systems in the homes of older people across the County Borough.

Telecare enables people to remain independent in their own homes by providing person-centred technologies to support the individual or their carers.  Equipment is designed to 

support the individual in their home and to be tailored to meet their needs. Telecare typically employs sensors and automated devices that enable the well–being of an individual to be monitored remotely and contributes to people’s health, mobility, well-being and security.

Helping Hands 50+ service

Our Handyperson Service undertakes smaller repairs and home improvement jobs.

Our Handypersons are trained Trusted Assessors which means they can propose minor adaptations when undertaking free Home Safety Checks.  

Below we have listed some of the jobs we can help you with:

  • clearing and unblocking gutters
  • fixing a toilet that won’t flush
  • fitting grab rails and hand rails inside and outside your home
  • fitting shelves and assembling flat-pack furniture
  • mending dripping taps
  • improving your security, repairing locks, even gaining access if you lose keys
  • repairing/replacing curtain rails and blinds
  • replacing internal light bulbs

We can provide a safe reliable service at a reasonable cost.
